CAMBRIDGE – It looks like vodka, but it’s really a poisonous
chemical that will make you extremely ill if you swallow it.
The chemical is called sodium azide, and it was stolen while
being used in testing of Grand River water by university students about 8 a.m. Saturday.
The students were on the bank of the river in a small park off Fountain Street when the chemical
was stolen from their cooler.
“It’s a caustic liquid,” said Staff Sgt. Doug Dakin of
Waterloo regional police. "If taken internally, you’ll get very, very ill. If mixed
with water or metal, it causes a toxic gas to form.”
He said he hopes that whoever took it doesn’t think it’s
vodka.
“Don’t drink it,” he
said. Instead, police would like a call so they can pick it up. The number is
653-7700 ext. 2210.
Hopefully a Zombie stole it, they can drink anything
